New developments in the modelling of plant competition

Symposium/workshop, Copenhagen (Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University), 18-20 November 2002.
Because of the importance of plant competition for many applied problems, such as plant invasions, risks of genetically-engineered organisms and crop-weed interactions, as well as basic ecological questions concerning plant communities and diversity, the modelling of plant competition has become a focus for research in recent years. This focus has resulted in significant advances in the modelling of plant competition at the individual, stand and population dynamics levels. In an attempt to inform researchers in related fields about these new methods, and to discuss and compare alternative approaches, the Center for Ecological Risk Assessment of Genetically Modified Plants has planned a workshop on recent developments in the modelling of plant competition.

The first day (18 November) will be comprised of general talks for a broad audience, mostly scientists (but not necessarily modellers) who are working with plant ecology, crop-weed interactions, or the ecological risk assessment of genetically modified plants.

The two next days (19-20 November) there will be a workshop on the modelling of plant-plant interactions of about 15 - 20 scientist who are working with modelling of plant competition.

The following scientists have been invited to the symposium and the workshop:

Robert Freckleton (University of Oxford, UK).
Toshihiko Hara (Hokkaido University, Japan)
Susanne Schwinning (University of Utah Salt Lake City, USA)
Jacob Weiner (Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, Denmark)
Tomasz Wyszomirski (Warsaw University, Poland)

We hope you will be able to join us. For practical questions and arrangements contact Christian Damgaard (cfd@dmu.dk).

The workshop is funded by the Center for Ecological Risk Assessment of Genetically Modified Plants.
