The Göttinger Strasse has four traffic lanes and a total traffic load of ca. 30,000 vehicles/day including 16% heavy vehicles. The width of the street canyon is 25 m and buildings on both sides of the street are ca. 20 m high. Street orientation is 163 degree with respect to North.
A permanent air quality monitoring station (Das Lufthygienische Überwachungssystem Niedersachsen (LÜN), Niedersächsisches Landesamt für Ökologie (NLÖ)) is located in Göttinger Strasse on the south-westerly side of the street, just outside the NLÖ's office building.
The air quality measurements cover NOx, NO2, CO, benzene, toluene, xylene and soot. The measuring height is 1.5m. Automatic traffic counts provide the vehicle flow in the street with differentiation between short and long vehicles. A 3-D Gill Anemometer, located on the top of a 10m mast, provides mean and turbulence data on the wind in the street.
Urban background measurements are available from a monitoring site located on the roof of a 32m high building, just south of the street monitoring location. The urban background data cover SO2, NOx, NO2, O3, CO and soot. Meteorological data (wind speed and direction) are measured from a 10m meteorological mast located on the roof of the 32m high building. Temperature and Net Radiation measurements are available from a meteorological site located in a park area, few kilometers from the Göttinger Strasse. List of the locations from which the data are collected for this study is shown in Table 1.
