Walrus

The Walrus is distributed along the coasts in the North Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean. It is found along both the East and West Coast of Greenland. The walrus is a large and heavy animal, which attains lengths of 2.5-3.5 meters, and can weigh 700-1500 kg. Males are bigger than the females. The walrus possesses two external tusks, which among other things are used for fighting and display among males, and when the female defends her young. The primary food is clams, which the walrus presumably suck out of their shelves with remarkably efficiency. The female reaches sexual maturity around the age of 8 years, and the male around the age of 10 years. The Walrus can live to be at least 40 years old.
