Air pollution monitoring programmes

NERI is responsible for two nation-wide networks of air pollution monitoring stations in Denmark: The urban network (LMP) and the background network (BOP).

The urban network - LMP

The so-called LMP programme comprises a monitoring network with stations in Danish cities. LMP stands for "Landsdækkende Luftkvalitetsmåleprogram" (nationwide air quality monitoring programme).

The current LMP-IV programme is the fourth phase of the LMP programme. This 4th phase started January 1, 2000.

The results are summarized in annual reports in English.

LMP-IV is carried out by the National Environmental Research Institute (NERI) in cooperation with the National Agency of Environmental Protection (Miljøstyrelsen), the Environmental and Food Control Agency of Copenhagen, and the municipal authorities in the cities of Århus, Odense and Aalborg.

The Background Monitoring Programme (BOP)

The nation-wide Danish Background Monitoring Programme (BOP) collects information on air quality in Danish background areas (outside cities).

Among the main objectives of the programme are determination of concentration levels and deposition of nutrients, acidifying compounds and heavy metals. Other components of air pollution such as ozone are also measured.

There is a more detailed description of BOP.
