NERI participates in many international collaboration networks within the field of air pollution, and it hosts websites for several such networks.
Below, some of these networks are presented. First, networks with current activities; next, other networks.
Networks with current activities
Initiative on Harmonisation within Atmospheric Dispersion Modelling for Regulatory Purposes. NERI has a very active role in this European initiative, and maintains the home page of the initiative. The home page www.harmo.org provides links to numerous information items and to model evaluation tools.
"Validated models describing Nordic urban and regional concentrations of particles and organic/ elemental carbon". The objective of NORPAC is to increase and coordinate Nordic research on measurements and modelling of ultrafine particle and particle mass. NORPAC is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers. 10 research groups from
"Particulate Matter: Properties Related to Health Effects"
COST is a common European framework for cooperation in research. In this COST action, scientists from various fields (atmospheric particles, epidemiology, toxicology and modelling) are brought together in an expert group. NERI hosts the web site of the action.
COST action 732
"Quality Assurance and Improvement of Micro-Scale Meteorological Models". Within the framework of COST 732, an exercise has been conducted where several groups have used the MUST data set for model validation. NERI hosts a set of web pages with results and tools related to the exercise.
"GLObal and REgional Atmospheric Modelling". NERI hosts the GLOREAM web page. GLOREAM was a subproject under EUROTRAC-II. Although the EUROTRAC activity has now ceased, there is still a certain activity, now in cooperation with EURASAP.
Assessment of the effectiveness of European air quality policies and measures
In cooperation with two other institutions (Milieu in
"Optimisation of Modelling Methods for Traffic Pollution in Streets". TRAPOS was a research network in the framework of the European Commission "Training and Mobility of Researchers" Programme. The project has ended, but NERI maintains the Web site of TRAPOS.
COST actions 710 and 715
NERI hosts information of relevance for these two COST actions, which were both concerned with processing of meteorological data for dispersion models. Both actions have ended, and results are available. COST action 710 has the title "Harmonisation within the pre-processing of meteorological data for dispersion models". COST action 715 is entitled "Urban Meteorology".
"Innovative WEather Presentation on TELevision". This was an EU ESPRIT project that ended in 1999. NERI participated with air pollution forecasts.
"Studying Environmental Problems in
"Sensibility Analysis of Regional-scale Atmospheric models". This was a project funded by Nordic Council of Ministers with participants from
"Coupling of CORINAIR data to cost-effective emission reduction strategies based on critical thresholds" (completed year 2000). This project was supported by the EU Commission and had participants from
"CAPMAN: Coastal Air Pollution Meteorology and Air-Sea Nutrient Exchange". CAPMAN is a completed research project within the framework of EUR0TRAC-2. Gary Geernaert of NERI was project coordinator.
Danish Society for Atmospheric Research (DSAR) is a (now dormant) Danish forum for scientists to meet and exchange information. For a number of years, there was an annual meeting in October/November. However, there have been no meetings since 2002.
