Topic and Aims

* The workshop is open to all who wish to participate, but the presentation programme will be arranged to enable focus on the workshop's core topic and geographic scope.

PEER Natura2000 workshop, 25-27 April 2007, Roskilde

"Concepts, methods and tools for Conservation Status Assessment, Reporting and Monitoring"

TOPIC

The EU member states are busy making their assessments for reporting of the conservation status of Habitat Directive habitats and species, for reporting to the EU by 20th June 2007. Beyond the EU's guidelines for assessment and reporting, each country has undertaken its Article 17 obligations in independent ways, reflecting their scientific and methodological approaches and their nature and data situations. But how much do we know and understand of this work in each other's countries?

AIMS

Greater knowledge and understanding of each other's work is required in order to meet the following aims: ■ develop the harmonisation of the 2007 reports for the Community Reporting ■ develop approaches and methods for the 2007-2012 reporting period, including the development of monitoring work.

RATIONALÉ

The rationalé in presenting and discussing with each other our work is that there are solutions to issues that we can better develop through collaboration than by working independently. Many aspects of biodiversity science and research interface to the Article 17 work.

SCOPE

The workshop is focused on the work of the N & NW European countries, i.e. UK,IE,FR,BE,NL,LU,DE,DK,SE,FI,NO. This respects that in a 2-day meeting it will be more efficient and effective to have in-depth examination and discussion of only a small number of countries.*

AUDIENCE

The target audience for the workshop includes: ■ researchers engaged in national Natura2000 conservation status assessment, reporting and monitoring programme development and implementation

■  researchers engaged in feeder research and projects towards national and/or Europe-wide nature assessment and monitoring ■  stakeholders, e.g. EU (e.g. EC, EEA, ETC) and Natonal (e.g. nature conservation agencies, Natura2000 site conservation managers)
