NERI has experienced increasing demand for consultancy services in the national and international markets. Our specialist services in the areas of environmental research and development, monitoring and policy analyses are being requested by public institutions as well as private companies. Being a research institute, NERI normally plays a secondary part in the markets, often supplementing and co-operating with the main operators.

NERI provides assistance to public and private clients in handling environmental issues within all our core areas. These include:

• The aquatic environment (marine and fresh water, catchment areas, monitoring, pressures from agriculture and fish-farming, restoration)
• Air pollution (modelling and decision support systems on global, regional and local scales, monitoring, emissions, effects of traffic and other sources)
• Nature (biodiversity, land use, coastal zone, restoration and conservation, monitoring, Environmental Impact Assessments, effects of windmills, hunting and other outdoor activities)
• Xenobiotic compounds and genetically modified organisms (risk assessment, monitoring, environmental chemistry, bioremediation)
• Policy analyses (integrated modelling and assessment, State of the Environment Reporting, environmental indicators, scenarios, environmental economy and sociology).

All consultancy activities are based on internationally acknowledged scientific research.

Our customers and partners includes; national and international consultancy companies, government agencies and regional authorities, the European Environmental Agency, the European Commission, and United Nations Office of Project Services.

One of our current core consultancy activities are the support to new European Member States in the process of upgrading environmental monitoring systems to comply with the EU directives. Other activities include capacity building within the environmental sector and technical support to environmental monitoring to third world countries.
