NERI's research forms the basis for science-based nature and environmental management. NERI's research activities therefore support social development in relation to nature and environment, and provide qualified research and a science-based decision basis to authorities, politicians and other decision-makers.  

NERI performs strategic research based on scientific expertise within atmospheric environment, aquatic environment and nature, terrestrial environment and nature, and environmental analyses within a social science perspective.
